OneNote

In 2003, Microsoft threw their hat into the digital note-taking field. Sure why would they want to be left out of the fun, right?

What is this

Well this is part of the Microsoft Office suite, wait, wait before you leave. It is also a FREE standalone app. You can find this in

  • Windows app store
  • macOS
  • Android
  • Web-based as well

You can create notes that include the following:

  • Text
  • Pictures
  • Tables
  • Drawing

I could go on but hopefully you get the picture. One thing I like about this is the ability to add

  • YouTube video
  • Vimeo video

Yes, that is nice.  OneNote also has the clipper and the ability to email to OneNote. When you are working on notes in OneNote they are stored in different folders. Like I have about to different notebooks and these all have different sections. Each section is saved in different folders under the main folder. It is saved in a .one extension.

Uses

So, what are the uses for this type of thing for? Well, that is a good question. This is my opinion and it isn’t documented anywhere just in my head.

You can use this to organize you school classes

  • Marketing
  • English
  • Linux
  • Math
  • Computer Information

You can create a folder called school, and then a section inside of the school with the items above ^^ and keep your notes there.

If you are writing a book you can have a separate section for each chapter.

If you have different blogs you can have a separate section/notebook for each of them.

So many uses.

My opinion

You thought you would be able to get away from this informational section without getting my opinion, well  you thought wrong.

To be honest it really took me a while to warm up to OneNote. I used it when it first came out, then I started to use Evernote more and more. I found that more useful. There were some good things that OneNote was coming out with that made me look at it again.

I actually use this a lot more than I used to. I don’t have to pay for it, so that is nice. I can sync this with the following;

  • Windows computer
  • MacBook
  • iPhone
  • iPad

Which makes it nice. Then I can use it anywhere. OneNote has come a long way and it is a good thing.
