Navigating the USB Transition: How I Managed My Gadgets in a USB A to USB C World

With things moving towards USB-C connections, what do you do or use for all those USB-A cables? Better yet, what if you have to have a 90-degree angle for a spot?

USB A

For a long time, these ruled the computer world. So there are a lot of cables out there that use USB-A.

I mean, many of the gadgets I own have a USB-A cable. Like

  • Hard drives
  • Battery chargers
    • Yes, there is a mixture of USB-C and USB-A connections
  • Kindle
  • iPhone
  • iPad
  • Apple Watch
  • I could go on and on

But I won’t

There are just a lot of cables out there that use USB-A connections

USB A and USB C

Now there are cables out there with a USB-A on one end and a USB-C on the other. As many things are moving towards USB-C, some devices are still trying to use the USB-A connection.

I mean, I have a lot of these cables and devices.

USB C

Since I have a MacBook, I am all about USB-C or Thunderbolt ports. Just don’t get me started on the little things—like taking the charging cable.

It is a USB-C to USB-C cable.

Or a USB-C to MagSafe end.

Since these are becoming increasingly common, you will get a lot of gadgets with this setup. But if you still have a lot of older cables that still work, what do you do with those? Or with the old hard drives with a USB A cable. Well, you have the following.

USB-C Adapters

I picked up the following.

These help me connect my USB-A cables to USB-C connections, which has become a lifesaver for certain things I use.

Since I have a MacBook, I have 3 USB-C ports. But I have the following:

  • USB-A keyboard
  • 3 hard drives
    • One for iMovie backups
    • One for entertainment
    • One for the storage of a lot of different stuff

These all use USB-A connections.

So, I plug the connections into an adapter and a USB hub powered via a USB-C cable, which is nice because the MacBook has USB-C ports.

These are a great asset and help ensure I can get things done.

I have the following as well

It helps with adding cables and plugs into a tight place.

Also, I have the following:

This makes it pleasant to plug in something that needs to be plugged in without having a bad angle.

These are lifesavers for things I use every day.

Recommend

Yes, I highly suggest that you pick some of these up. If you are stuck with USB-A and USB-C issues, they will help you with your daily tasks. I picked these up from Amazon.
