I was trying to get some more power options for my desk—you know, more plugs, USB plugs, you know that drill. What did I do?
Desk
My desk is an L shape, and I am always trying to figure out how to plug in more items. I have a few cords set up for my iPad; the plug is set up to charge my MacBook Pro. I also have a computer set up on the L-shaped side of things.
But I’m trying to find more power options so I can plug in something quickly while also keeping it nice and sleek.
Picked Up
I picked this little thing up

It is an under-the-desk mount, but I mounted it on top of my desk. I used some command strips to secure it to the desk so it wouldn’t move around.
Now this does do the trick. It gives me the following:
- 4 US Plugs
- 2 USB A
- 1 USB-C
Now, I have the following plugged in.
- Lamp
- Outdoor lights
- Need to move this back downstairs
- Tripod light for YouTube videos

Now that the lamp is powered via USB, however, the USB outlets stop working. For example, when I power off the light, it won’t power back up unless I unplug the USB cable and plug it back in. Then it works. That defeats the purpose I had it for. That is why I have USB-A blocks in the plugs. It keeps the light powered, so when I turn it on, it works.
I’m not sure why my USB plugs are having an issue, but they work, just not like I wanted them to.
I picked this up on Amazon.
Recommend
The question is, would I recommend this desk-mount plug? Sure, it does what it needs to do. The USB plugs are a bit of a pain in the buttish, but that is life, I guess. I mean, I find I have to unplug and plug in other USB chargers as well. Maybe it is a safety thing. You never know.
But it does the job I need it to—charging things on my desk, so I don’t have to go downstairs and find an empty plug.
It’s just what I said. But the USB is not working, and I have to unplug it and plug it back in again.

Yep, I did a video on this thing
