MacBook Pro M3

Why am I talking about a MacBook Pro again? I mean, how many times can I talk about a MacBook Pro? Well, I guess a lot.

MacBook Pro

I talked about my MacBook Pro here in this post. https://www.iamgadgetguy.com/macbook-pro/

But the time has come to say goodbye to that one. I got that one back in 2022. It was an older model in 2019. It was a good laptop, and it served its purpose. However, it was limited to only 8GB of RAM and 256GB of hard drive space—nowhere near what I needed.

M3 MacBook Pro

I researched and found that I could wait until the M4s came out, but the M# had what I needed.

  • More storage
  • More RAM options
  • Newer
  • Something that would last awhile

That is what I found in this M3 MacBook Pro.

What did I get

Well, I was looking back and forth, and the models and this is what I came up with for my everyday use.

I thought of getting something with 96GB of RAM, but was that overkill? Not sure. I went with the following:

  • 14” NacBiij Ori
  • M3 Max Gip
  • 36GB Memory
  • 30-core GPU
  • 1TB SSD
  • In Space Black.

It is only a one-inch difference in size, but that is OK. I needed something that would support my three external monitors. The old MacBook Pro worked, but it just wasn’t powerful enough for me.

That 36GB of Memory is always good. I haven’t received a run-out-of-memory error or any messages about running out of space.

M3 Max Chip

Is this overkill for what I need it for? I mean, I am not streaming or rendering high-quality videos yet, and I am not doing intensive graphics yet. I am working on it. But for me, this was the right choice, and I am glad I went up to 1TB of space. That means I have more room to add things to the desktop and not worry about running out of space.

I was thinking about going with the Max Pro Chip, but that would have been overkill. I was leaning towards that, but the price was just too much for me. That is why I looked at what would work best for me.

Old and New MacBook Pro

My old one was an Intel based chip, Intel chips are fine, don’t get me wrong. However, the Apple chip is much better for how MacBooks are designed.

My old one was plugged in 24/7, most of the time. If I went on vacation and took my MacBook, it wasn’t always plugged in. I noticed that my battery was having an issue on the one. It did give me an error that the battery might need service. But I couldn’t be without my laptop for a few days.

I did notice that the battery in the old one was expanding, and my MacBook wasn’t level enough to write on. My son wanted that one for school, but that is a no-go for him unless he would like to get a new battery.

I just hope that the new one doesn’t have an expanding battery because it is plugged in 24/7 and connected to my docking station. One can only tell by time.

Thoughts

Since I got this towards the end of June 2024, I have really liked the power and the fact that it doesn’t crash on me all the time. I found that when I do videos in iMovie, they don’t take a long time to render, so that is a plus. I can also open a lot of programs or apps and not worry about them crashing.

It is nice since I like multitasking and having several things open simultaneously. I am thrilled with the choice I have made. I can finally get back to doing what I do and not worry about running out of memory or storage.
