KeySmart SmartLock Review: The TSA-Approved Luggage Lock That Tracks Your Bags Using Apple Find My

I have been trying to figure out how to lock up my backpack zippers. I have tried a few different locks. Have I found the one?

Picked up

A new lock for my backpack, and well, it works, but it doesn’t work. So what did I get? I got a KeySmart SmartLock.

This isn’t just a TSA lock, but it is a trackable luggage lock. Yes, you have heard that right. You can connect this to your Find My Stuff on Apple.

They say this is a game-changing lock that doesn’t just secure your belongings, it helps you track them anywhere in the world.

Makes it different

Well, it is the ability to track your stuff wherever you go in the world. I mean, the Bluetooth connection has a range of up to 200 feet. But that doesn’t help you when it is not within that range. But the over 1 billion Apple devices are helping you track your luggage. All via this smart lock.

What do People love

Apple Find My integration

I have talked about this above, but once you connect it to the Find My APP. It will connect to the following:

iPad, iPhone, Mac, or Apple Watch. As long as you have it set up correctly. Set up takes less than a minute.

TSA-Approved Security

If you are going to the airport, TSA agents can open your lock if needed. It does have a three-digit combination. But the ability for TSA to get in if needed is nice.

Built for the roughest travel

The alloy steel it was constructed with withstands the rough handling of baggage handlers and features IPX3 water resistance to protect from rain or spills.

Smart Battery Design

The lock uses a replaceable CR1632 coin cell battery, and it lasts up to 4 months.

Sound Alerts

Yes, it does have a sound ability on it; they say no more staring at the luggage carousel. Well, for me, I can barely hear AirTags.

Who is this lock for

Well, it could be good for

  • Frequent business travelers who can’t afford to lose important items
  • Families who want to track luggage collaboratively
  • Anyone traveling with expensive equipment or valuables
  • Apple users looking for seamless ecosystem integration
  • Travelers are tired of generic luggage that’s hard to identify at baggage claim

Con’s

Here are a few cons that I have seen

  • AirTags battery lasts longer
  • Sound isn’t loud
  • If you have an Android, you’re out of luck.
  • Won’t fit some of my zippers on my Nomatic backpack.

The bottom line

The KeySmart SmartLock represents a significant leap forward in travel security. By combining TSA-approved physical protection with Apple’s powerful Find My network, it addresses both the security and location-tracking needs of modern travelers. The durable construction, replaceable battery, and easy setup make it a practical choice for anyone who values their peace of mind while traveling.

At its core, this isn’t just a lock—it’s an insurance policy against the stress and expense of lost luggage. For Apple users who travel even occasionally, the SmartLock is an investment in worry-free journeys and one less thing to stress about when you’re on the road.
