Smart Plugs and Switches

When I was growing up, if you wanted something unplugged on turned on you had to get up off your butt and unplug it or flip the switch. I know so brutal.

Our fix

Growing up my parents decided to build a new house and in the new house my dad decided to have a switch next to the stairs and that controlled the Christmas lights. But only one plug. I mean it was the year 1977-78 when we built the house.  Yes, I helped build the house. I know I was little like 6 or 7 but I still was a good helper.

In my current house, I have the following:

  • 4 Plugs for the Christmas lights
  • 2 plugs in the living room that runs on separate switches
    • To control the Christmas tree
    • To control a light
  • 2 plugs in the family room that runs on separate switches
    • To control the downstairs Christmas Tree or light depending on where we put the tree at
    • To control the downstairs Christmas Tree or light depending on where we put the tree at

So that was so last century wasn’t it.

Now days

They have these things called smart switches and smart plugs and are they handy? That is the question we will be answering over the next several posts. We will find out what they are for and why they are needed and are they useful.

So come on back and we will look at them.
